Obtaining a Schengen visa online
The media in Europe presents the issue of obtaining a Schengen visa online. This will be the result of a complete digitalization procedure.
Experts predict that this will not happen right now, but at some point in time. But this work has already begun in the European Union. The first step has already been taken. The EU Parliament has passed a law on the digitalization of the visa procedure. Its essence is to replace the paper version of a Schengen visa with an electronic one. This is to speed up the process, reduce the effort and cost required to apply, and increase security. There is a special unified online platform for applying for and obtaining a visa. Those wishing to travel no need to visit the embassy or visa center, just go to the website and fill out all the necessary forms.
But, it has not yet been decided what to do for those people who do not have “digital literacy,” as well as what options to use if applicants live in areas with insufficient Internet resources. And there is no site yet.
In Parliament, the law was voted for by a majority of votes (35), against-5, abstentions-20. As a result, interdepartmental negotiations are announced.
To obtain the first visa, the person wishing to travel must visit a biometric center to submit fingerprints and take a photo. This procedure will have to be done once every five years.
